The region’s best-known stories are rooted in real places. Tour Ronald Reagan’s boyhood landscape in Dixon and Tampico, stand where John Deere shaped the first commercially successful self-scouring steel plow in Grand Detour, or follow the legacy of Sauk leader Black Hawk through museums, monuments, and the Rock River valley.
In Fulton, the working De Immigrant windmill and nearby Windmill Cultural Center connect the Mississippi riverfront to the city’s Dutch heritage.
