Dixon Lincoln Highway Interpretive MuralOne of Lee County’s three Illinois Lincoln Highway interpretive murals, this downtown Dixon artwork depicts the 1919 Transcontinental Motor Convoy that included future President Dwight D. Dixon Municipal BandThe Dixon Municipal Band is one of Dixon’s longest-standing traditions, bringing more than a century of live music to the community. This volunteer-powered ensemble blends the talents of high school musicians, community players, and experienced professionals, creating warm, crowd-pleasing performances all season long. Each summer, the band fills the Page Park Band Shell with marches, classics, Broadway hits, and other familiar favorites during its free outdoor concert series. They also present an annual Christmas concert—free to attend with reserved tickets—along with appearances at parades and special community events. Dixon’s Railroad Street ArchesThree locally quarried Galena-limestone railroad arches carry Dixon’s shared-use trail above First, Second and Third streets. Built for the Illinois Central Railroad in the 1850s, the arches are listed on the National Register of Historic Places and were rehabilitated in 1999. Today walkers and cyclists can cross the historic structures en route to downtown and the Rock River.

First Carson Pirie Scott Store PlaqueThis historic plaque marks the Amboy storefront where Samuel Carson and John T. Pirie established the dry-goods business in 1854 that became Carson Pirie Scott & Co. The marker is mounted at the original brick building, now home to the Long Branch Saloon.

Franklin Creek CabinNearby attractions The Franklin Creek State Natural Area is nearby. It is open, and there are plenty of hiking trails. Kayaks are available for the adventurous. Bring your bicycles and cruise Old Mill Rd. or head into Dixon for miles of great bike trails. The Rock River is also accessible by kayak or canoe; we can arrange pickup services. The Nachusa Grasslands, where bison roam over 1,500 acres, are just 2 miles away. The cabin has everything you need The kitchen is fully stocked with utensils, pots, pans, and most of the spices you’d need. The Weber grill is on the deck, and charcoal is in the bin. Stop at Franklin Fresh Market in the Grove to pick up your groceries. It has a good meat selection. Our local restaurant, Lincolnway Café, is open for curbside pickup. The patio and outdoor fireplace are ready for the season. It’s a great gathering place. The woodbin is stocked for a robust, relaxing evening before the campfire. Franklin Creek Grist Mill & Interpretive CenterReconstructed four-story 1847 grist mill in Franklin Creek State Natural Area.
