Lowden-Miller State Forest protects 2,291 acres of hardwood and pine forest along 3.5 miles of the Rock River south of Oregon. Six public parking areas provide access to about 22 miles of maintained trails for hiking and cross-country skiing, designated equestrian routes, and a 1.5-mile self-guided nature trail. Deer, squirrel, and turkey hunting are permitted under current regulations. Trails close briefly during firearm seasons, so check Illinois DNR notices before visiting.
